We're excited to share that AIMER Vision Gen3 smartphone-based pasture measurement models for New Zealand are here. And they’re more accurate than ever!
Why This Is Big News for Farmers
With Gen3 we’ve gained a 5–10% improvement in accuracy, with around 93% of pasture covers now falling within 200 kg DM/ha of a platemeter value. The models are also better at estimating covers below 1,800 and above 3,000 kg DM/ha, which are often the most challenging zones of any pasture measurement technology.
That means:
- Smarter grazing calls: know exactly when cows have grazed down to the right residual.
- Better feed planning: see surpluses and deficits earlier and allocate breaks with more certainty.
- Consistency across devices: whether your team is on iOS or Android, low-, mid- or high-end smartphones, you’ll all get the same reliable results.
In short, Gen3 gives you even more confidence in your numbers and more confidence in your decisions on-farm.
What’s New in Gen3?
- A larger and more balanced training dataset – over 1,000 new videos added, especially from very low and very high cover paddocks. That means stronger accuracy where it’s hardest to measure.
- One NZ wide model – we’ve found that one New Zealand model is better than the previous approach of regional models. This makes results more robust and accurate across the country.
- Improved consistency across devices – whether you’re using iOS or Android, and no matter if it’s a low, mid, or high-end smartphone, you and your team can have confidence you’ll get the right result irrespective of who is measuring or what phone they’re using.
All Your Favourites Still Available
Gen3 still includes all the features farmers have come to rely on. The handy ‘follow me’ paddock function means you don’t have to flick between screens, full offline capability ensures you can measure pasture even when connectivity lets you down, and AIMER estimates save you the time and effort of walking or riding the whole farm.
Proven On-Farm
Before release, we put Gen3 into the hands of our beta farmer network. Their feedback confirmed that the improvements make a practical difference in the paddock. That’s why you can be confident Gen3 isn’t just more accurate in theory, it’s been proven on-farm.
Listening, learning & improving quickly
We’ve heard feedback from our farmer customers that while the Gen2 models were better, they weren’t as accurate and consistent as you needed them to be. We took that feedback seriously and fast-tracked the development of this new and improved model ahead of the Spring growth flush. Each generation of AIMER Vision has been a step forward, but Gen3 is a significant leap, and we’re committed to continuing to improve our Vision models.
Why accurate pasture management matters
Accurate pasture measurement is one of the most powerful tools farmers have. It tells you when cows have grazed down to the right residual, which paddocks are ready to be grazed, how many breaks a paddock can deliver, and when surpluses or deficits are starting to appear. These insights support better feed planning, more efficient use of pasture, and ultimately stronger farm profitability.
Because pasture measurement is so critical, we’ve made it our mission at Aimer Farming to keep improving AIMER Vision with every update. Technology is always evolving, and so is AIMER Vision. Guided by farmer feedback and driven by the latest advances, it gets smarter and more reliable with each generation.
The bottom line? With AIMER Vision Gen3, you can trust the numbers in your pocket, and make grazing and feed decisions with greater confidence, accuracy, and peace of mind.
For existing subscribers, you can access the Gen3 Model from Friday 5 Sept 2025 by downloading from the App Store or Google Play.
